REFORM & INITIATIVE

  • All Jails have hospitals / dispensaries with indoor / outdoor facilities and provide basic health care to the inmates.
  • Hospitals are providing 24 hours emergency coverage.
  • Facilities of the ambulance are available in all Central Prisons.
  • The Specialist Doctors also visit the Jail hospital once in a week for provision of specialized treatment to inmates.
  • Blood screening tests for Hepatitis B and C of prisoners in all the Jails / Lockups is being carried out.
  • Construction/renovation work in various Jails is in progress.
  • Specialized combat training is being imparted to watch and ward staff, through FC and Elite Force.
  • Computerized Prison Information Management system has been introduced in prison Department and access to information regarding inmates is easily available.
  • Facility of Conjugal Right (Separate Rooms Constructed in all Central Jails of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) is provided to the convicted prisoners.
  • Modern Weapons/Security Equipment’s have been purchased and distributed amongst jails.
  • Newly Constructed Central Prison Mardan having capacity of 1998 prisoners has been operationalized.
  • In the cookhouses of all the Jails of Province Kneading machines are installing due to which the hard labour of prisoners regarding kneading of flour has been discontinued.
  • Remission is granted to convicted prisoners without discrimination strictly as per Prisons Rules, inmates are specifically attracted towards education including religious education.
  • Special / extra diet for Nursing mothers and pregnant women prisoners is provided as per Prison Rules.
  • Female inmates are confined in separate enclosures away from the male prisoners and all possible facilities are being provided to them.
  • In order to provide better health care to female inmates especially pregnant ladies, 7 posts of LHV, have been created in jails.
  • The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sanctioned 10 posts of Psychologist in the Jails of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for rehabilitation of the inmates.
  • Separate interview rooms are provided for women prisoners.
  • Women visitors have been provided with separate waiting sheds etc.
  • Facilities of clean drinking water, water cooler etc and basic facilities of entertainment i.e. TV sets, Radio and Games are also extended to women and juvenile prisoners inside the Jail beside other prisoners.
  • Facilities of technical education like Tailoring, Embroidery etc are also provided to female prisoners inside the jails for their rehabilitation.
  • Formal, informal and Religious Education is imparted to women and juvenile prisoners on daily basis in separate enclosures.
  • New schemes have been included in the ADP keeping in view the future requirement of the department.
  • Scheme for installation of water filtration plants has been included in the ADP at the cost of Rs. 40/- Million.
  • A scheme for enhancement of skills of inmates has been included in the ADP at the cost of Rs. 250 Million which would help the inmates in their social re-integration on their release.
  • Model interview rooms would be established in all Central Prison in the coming ADP.
